A few years ago I created a set of free tutorials showing how to make alphabet letter canes using polymer clay. At the time there were no other full alphabet tutorials available, so I was hoping to provide a useful reference for polymer clay enthusiasts. The tutorials were certainly very popular on Pinterest, so in response to the community’s feedback and the rising popularity of visual learning, I’ve decided to start adding them to my PolymerKay TikTok account as well. Eventually I’ll put the tutorials on my other channels as well (Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, etc.) but for now I’ll just concentrate on posting the TikTok polymer clay tutorials.

Therefore I will now be enhancing each tutorial with both a step-by-step video and a downloadable one-sheet summary that includes key tips and tricks. This dual format should be helpful for all levels of polymer clay users, because beginners can follow the detailed instructions and video guide, while the more experienced clayers can just refer to the quick reference sheet.

I’ve already updated my Polymer Clay Letter A Cane post, so now it contains the full set of: (1) free detailed instructions (2) demonstration video, and (3) handy one-sheet summary.

Here’s an exampe of the TikTok video:

I love being able to use new technology and social media platforms to spread the word about polymer clay. TikTok in particular is fun because it challenges me to create short (hopefully engaging) videos which highlight the essential steps and demonstrate how I actually manipulate the clay. When I was doing my teacher training years ago, we were reminded that there are several different learning styles, so some people (me!) enjoy following step-by-step written instructions, but other people much prefer a video format.

I hope you find these letter canes and TikTok polymer clay tutorials useful. If so, please let me know via the comments section or the Contact page – or you can also contribute to my clay fund via the Ko-fi button below if you’d like to help me continue to make these tutorials and videos.

Please also let me know if you’d like to see tutorials for other similar canes – e.g. numbers or lowercase letters. I’m always on the look out for other challenges! In the meantime I’m working on a polymer clay cane book. If you’re interested in hearing about that, please give me a shout.
