This is a blog about polymer clay.

I love polymer clay. LOVE it. I’ve been using it and demonstrating how to use it for over 20 years, and still haven’t got bored of it. Whether it’s Fimo, Sculpey, Premo, or Hobbycraft-own-brand, I am always amazed at the versatility of clay as an art medium, and at the creativity of the artists in the polymer clay community.

Over the years I’ve come to specialise in creating ‘canes’ – in particular flower and leaf canes – but I love learning new skills and adding to my repertoire.

The main aim of this blog will be to act as a record of all of my polyclay related ‘inputs and outputs’. So if I read a new polymer clay book or find a new website or technique then I will share a link to it here. And if I am developing a new design or continuing a polymer project then this is also where I’ll record it.

This website replaces my previous “Key Crafts” website – mostly because it’s easier to keep track of my different craft outputs in different websites, rather than having them all mashed into one general website or blog. (E.g. I am also into laser cutting and computing).

Along the way I’ll try to create tutorials and step-by-step articles on how to make polymer clay canes. If you’d like to receive them via email to make sure that you don’t miss any of them, please subscribe or sign up for the newsletter. That way you’ll be the first to hear about any new tutorials or workshops etc.

It’s not all about me, though – so if you want to read about other polymer clay artists or if you’d like to share some resources with the rest of us polyclay fanatics, then please leave a comment or tweet @polymer-kay so we can build up an even bigger list of resources.

The general pattern of this blog will be that I’ll alternate between tutorials, tips, and sources of inspiration – at least once a week at first, but maybe with ‘bonus’ posts if I can.

It’s easy to start a blog (check out this blogging advice from Jeff Goins if you’re interested in starting your own), but it’s hard to keep one going for weeks and months and possibly even years. Fortunately I am invoking the power of NaNoWriMo this month (November 2017), and so will be joining hundreds of thousands of other people in writing 50,000 words (1,667 words per day) over the course of 30 days. So with a little help from NaNo’s discipline and ‘accountability’, some of those words are going to be about polymer clay.
